Cutting Calories and No Weight Loss

I’m seeking help about one of my client’s obesity problem. I have been training her for 6 months now with good results with body shape and a decrease in body fat percentage, however her body weight has only dropped 5 pounds. She is happy with the body shape changes but every few weeks when its weigh-in time, she is dumbfound that the scales aren’t showing how she feels or has changed like aesthetically. She has dieted in the past on and off for many years. The major problem now is that she is consuming a very low calorie diet in the region of 1000 calories a day in the vengeance of the lack of weight loss. She says she feels cheated that her hard work and strict eating hasn’t paid off, besides she says she never feels hungry and has to force herself to eat. Her current weight is 283lbs. … Continue Reading

Liver/GB Flush

Here is what I use and it works well. This is used though at the right time in a treatment plan and with the right client. I also add in some other western and Chinese herbs for support before and after the flush. I typically have them use castor oil packs on the liver 3x week prior, each day of the flush and 3 x wk after. This helps to relieve liver qi stagnation. As well, I always have them do a bowel cleanse and a parasite cleanse prior to doing a LV/GB flush.  Liver cleanse and gallbladder cleanse flushIngredients:1/2 CupOlive Oil Extra Virgin  (= 1.25 dl) 1 Big grapefruit (2 small) (Or 3 lemons)4 tablespoon EPSOM salts =  ( MgSO4 + 7H2O) (EPSOM salts  = Magnesium Sulphate =  EPSOMITE = Magnesium Sulfate Heptahydrate)3 cups water (=750 dl)(P.S .!! 1 cup = 250 ml = 2.5 dl = 0.25 l )You can substitute … Continue Reading

Puffy/Red Under Eyes

Firstly thank you for all your invaluable posts and sharing of important and insightful health information. I just have a quick question that is puzzling me at the moment…My girlfriend is currently experiencing acute itchy, red and dry skin under her eyes. She has had this on and off for a number of years and triggers have include change in climate, cold dry weather, and now it seems to occur after exercise. There are many schools of thought on this. Here are some of my thoughts, but do some research on to which avenue might fit with what she may have going on: Bags under the eyes are typically a sign of some stage of Adrenal Fatigue. In TCM, some say the eyes in general are correlated to the Liver. In TCM, some say under the eyes is correlated to the Kidneys. In TCM, some say under the eyes on … Continue Reading

Anemai during pregnancy

My wife is 35 weeks pregnant and her latest blood screen has revealed mild anaemia (just below normal HB levels). We’d prefer to avoid using a prescribed supplement if possible and so I’d be really grateful if anyone could recommend or advise me as towhat dietary changes we can make to safely increase HB levels and iron intake? Here are my thoughts or areas to look into. It is hard to go off of just anemia, as I like to know a lot more about what the person looks like, lives like, other symptoms, pain, etc. But here is goes and hopefully this helps. Of course any recs I make you have to be careful with and check with her MD to cover your hiney!  In the Textbook of Functional Medicine, they state that there is a high correlation between anemia and hypochlorhydria. My gut healing protocol is 1)remove (food elimination, … Continue Reading

Strep throat reoccurrence

I know this is the one place on earth I can come for help with a health related issue with my 17 year old daughter. She is suffering with her third bout of strep throat this year. (confirmed by culture). The doctors say that she is probably a carrier and will need to get her tonsils removed. I am of the thought that all parts were put there for a reason and we need to leave them in tact. Can any one offer any explanation or any steps we can take to prevent the removal of her tonsils. Or is this the best alternative? She is a full time student, works 25 hours a week and has is social. Like most teenagers she doesn’t follow my lifestyle and eating habits. However she does do better than most. Thanks in advance for all of your valuable insights. Respectfully,Becky I will give you some … Continue Reading

Infant Development and Exercise Rx

QUESTION: I have a client who is incredibly athletic. She’s 49 years old easily maintains around 18% body fat and is in amazing shape. To give you guys an idea she can do clapping pushups for sets of 10+ reps, quick 24″ box jumps with ease, has around a 14 second hexagon test, and has great posture and symmetry in single leg, and split stance. But she cannot squat deep. Once she break parrallel she falls backwards. Her knees are aligned, her heels are flat, but her torso just falls backwards. Now, if I put her heels onto 1″ pieces of wood she squats perfect, of course if it’s on the toes…she falls. I’ve put her through what RNT I know with the core board etc, but I’m missing something…Now here’s the most amazing part to me. She complains to be that her golf swing is horrible, and that she … Continue Reading

What is and Where is Happiness?

I decided last week to buy a nice journal from Barnes and Noble. I have been starting to write down life lessons, my versions of poetry and drawing in it each day. I starte to do this because for one, I wanted to stimulate more R brained activity than L. I love what I do and I love my life, but I feel it is dominated by my L brain. I have two halves, so I thought I would start using the other side more often. Secondly, I started to journal because I realized that I have learned so much about myself over the past 5 years through self exploration, learned so much from my clients and everyone that I came in contact with, that I needed to start writing it down, digesting it and learning from it. I have to say so far, I enjoy it each day and … Continue Reading
