Do You Have Hypothyroidism Part 2

Do You Have Hypothyroidism Part 2

As spoken by Dr. Diane Schwarzbein, “our hormones control our metabolism and we control our hormones.”

Every day the body is working to maintain some degree of homeostasis, by which the thyroid hormone is a main player. It is the responsibility of the thyroid to regulate the metabolism by detecting subtle shifts in the body chemistry and to compensate for them. The more chronic these shifts, due to an imbalance in internal and external stress, the more likely, over time, the thyroid will fatigue and falter.

So the question remains, “who needs thyroid medication and who doesn’t?”

Datis Kharrazian highlights 6 patterns of thyroid dysfunction in his book “Why Do I Still Have Thyroid Symptoms,” only one of which can be resolved with thyroid hormone medication.

  • Primary hypothyroidism
  • Pituitary hypofunction
  • Thyroid under conversion
  • Thyroid over conversion
  • Thyroid binding globulin elevation
  • Thyroid resistance

Primary hypothyroidism is the only of these 6 patterns effectively treated with thyroid hormone medication. However, even in this case, if the primary hypothyroidism is identified before the damage is irreparable, it too can be corrected using nutrition.

In this video Josh is going to help by explaining the interrelationship of these different patterns through the function of the pituitary gland. As you will learn, they all share a common denominator, stress, which therefore affect the metabolic pathway and lead to what is known as Functional Hypothyroidism; Depressed thyroid activity that can be nutritionally supported without the use of medication. In other words, the thyroid gland itself is fine but the metabolic pathways are impaired.

If this is true, then food used properly can be very effective in regulating the hormones and restoring the communication within the metabolic pathways. And in our experience, is the first step in getting the body back into balance.

I just came home from my Doctor. I went because I am on thyroid hormone and am still cold, hair falling out, constipated, etc. I insisted she ordered blood work including T4, T3. She said they would send a letter to let me know everything is normal or call if it wasn’t and see you in a year.
So glad to hear this message, now I feel more informed to get the care I need and to help myself heal!
